Maxtor External HD not working.....help!

Hello All,

I have a Maxtor External HD 300gb, IEEE 1394, I use the firewire cable.

For some reason I cannot access my external HD anymore. It was fine earlier tonight. I came home and went to open it and I get the following:

"F:\ is not accessible
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

PLEASE PLEASE can anyone tell me the most simple way to get my data? I tried all the other firewire ports and NOTHING. If I go to "my computer" I can see my F drive, but it is labeled as "Local Disk" instead of the name I gave it and if I right click on the drive and go to "properties" it says that my File system is RAW and that used and free space is 0 bytes. I have no clue what RAW is and why this happened just out of no where. I right clicked on the F drive and went to TOOLS > ERROR CHECKING and nothing happens. I also tried to DEFRAG, but it won't do anything. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

Thanks!

~ Beth

Re: Maxtor External HD not working.....help!

Get the drive out of its enclosure and plug it direclty inside your computer. Check that it's reported with correct settings in the bios then report what disk management (right click on my computer => manage => disk management) says about it.

I would also run PowerMax diagnostics to check the drive for problems.
