Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

you may need to hook the drive up as slave to another computer that is running win XP

then enter the disk management console and give us a screen shot of what it shows

while in DM; try to revert the drive back to basic disk

if successful; then you can wipe the entire drive and set it up correctly as BASIC disk. But I much favor the Disk Wizard for setting up partitions and formatting

Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

The only sugestion I can think of involves getting Boot n Nuke to work

can you install a floppy drive in the system / floppies are dirt cheap now ???

You may get lucky by booting into the windows recovery console, and using diskpart >>>> delete any partitions you can find on the drive

here are the commands & explanations for recovery console

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true

then re-run kill disk until you can wipe the WHOLE drive

Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

I did delete anything on the drive with about 5 programs, and a quick nuke from DBA. I might be able to go to a friends house and put my hardrive in there. Any other ideas? The hardrive seems to keep only 30 gb availdable to wipe and the rest hidden from the program.

Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

its hard to tell because I have only used Dynamic disks twice before; they are a pain in the butt; but each time I had to delete the dynamic disk from within disk management I was hoping dban boot and nuke would see the whole drive and zero fill it. The dynamic disk is treated like individual drives

Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

I didn't even know I made them, I just know that I probably did something mbr related. I can go to a friends house and put my hardrive in there. Anything I shold do via windows that can brings it all back together and unified into one harddrive?

Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

once you are within disk management post a screen shot of your disk management screen

if you want to review a guide on how to use disk management (see my signature links)

the screen shot should look just like the ones I posted within the guide

from there we can proceed

are you familiar with how to post a screen shot ????

Re: strange harddrive problems, I need help!

I wanted to check the hd's health, mandriva is easy to delete, it'll take only about 3 minutes. Plus its simpler then freespire & ubuntu partition wise. Don't worry about it, I'll just format the drive before I go on my friends computer tommorow..I have allot of experiance with mandriva and ubuntu (I don't know the problems windows & freespire can cause harddrive wise). Its just freespire wouldn't install a while before and I was worried so I tested it.

what a weird yet lucky and strange oppurtunity

look at this screen shot of a fellas system while using disk managment

Simple Question - Disk Management Partition

thats what you need to do; see where the menu says "convert to basic disk"

thats what need to be done [look carefully at the description of Disk 1 under Disk 0 ]
