Acomdata HDD
I bought an Acomdata 120GB Rocketpod awhile ago and got it running with zero problems.
Just recently I've had to wipe my drive and reinstall Win98 and went thru the hookup of my Rocketpod with no obvious errors coming up. However I can't access it anymore. It shows up in Device Manager and the little icon in the taskbar says its connected, it just isn't being assigned a drive letter so I can see it on My Computer. I've been told that I can assign or change drive letters from the Properties tab of my HDD in Device Manager. But all that actually does is show what letter it's assigned not allow me to change it. Never had this problem before so I have no clue what to do. Any help would be appreciated. |

It may be that the drive needs reformatting. You should be able to do this with Disk Management. Follow these steps.

I've been giving your problem some thought (at this time on a Sunday night that's quite a feat
). One thing that confuses me is that You say it shows up in the Taskbar but isn't assigned a drive letter, but in the properties tab in Device Manager it is shown a drive letter but you can't change it. What do you see in Windows Explorer? Have you checked your USB controllers in Device Manager to make sure they are OK? As a last resort you may have to reinstall 98. Before you do that try the emergency startup disc and see if you can find the drive from DOS. Let me know how you get on.

Sorry, I guess I haven't been that clear.
1. I wiped C:\ and reinstalled WIN98. The 50GB of stuff was put onto my External HDD so I wouldn't lose it. 2. In the taskbar when I click the icon to choose to safely disconnect a HDD it shows as "Samsung SP1203N -Drive(:)". The drive letter is supposed to be in the brackets. 3. In Device Manager I meant in general all it shows is what drive letter is assigned and its greyed out so you can't change it. For the external HDD it's blank. |
