Can't detect raid after P/S swap
My Antec Neo480 p/s quit working the other day and i bought an Antec Neo550 to replace it. Everything went smoothly with the swap but when i turn it on it won't find my boot drive. It states something like no boot drive detected insert boot cd, etc.. I have 2 WD 80g sata drives in raid 0. I quadruple checked all connections, then i unhooked everything and just hooked up the raid drives and vid card power, still the same thing. I also tried disconnected the sata power cables from the drives and hooking in molex power cables, nothing. I can't figure out why this is happening with just a P/S swap. Do i need to change something in the bios? Do i need to stick in my spare 80g ide drive and install windows on it, then replug in my satas and see if they'll be detected? Could the new P/S be causing this, it seems to be working properly though? I'm really outta ideas. I'm guessing its something to do with the boot drive being raid, but i've had this setup runing great for a couple years now and all i did was swap P/S. My drives are full of data i can't lose. Any and all ideas are most welcomed. Thanks!!
My specs: WinXP Pro, Asus A8N-SLI Premium, AMD Athlon 64 3200, 2 gigs OCZ Plats (2x1g), eVGA 7800GT, SB Audigy 2, 2xWD 80g 7200 SATA (raid0), 1 WD ide 320g (storage drive), NEC DVD/RW drive, Pioneer slot DVD drive |

should be a simple fix, go into the bios and look under the boot section, then go to the hard drive section and make sure your raid is first on the list

First off thanks for helping. I went into bios and all the settings are the same as i had them. On the main bios screen it shows all the ide master, ide secondary, sata master, etc... There all disabled, which i think is correct since the only thing i have plugged in atm is the 2 sata raid drives. On the boot priority tab i have 1.hard disk, 2.cdrom, 3.removable, 4. disabled. The only other selectable option is legacy lan. I tried to enter raid setup during post with f10 but it won't go, prolly because it can't detect drives. In bios i checked the NVraid configuration tab and raid is enabled all other things in there are disabled except for 3rd and 4th sata master, which is where my drives are plugged into mobo at. After post the exact message that is displayed is, "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter." Is there any other ideas you can think of for me to try? I'll try anything to save my data. Once again thank you very much.

I've been trying some different things. I thought maybe i could put in the xp disk and maybe windows would boot and i could back up my data real quick. So i hooked up my dvd drive and it doesn't seem to be showing up in bios. Also it won't open, like its not getting power. I'm beginning to think this new P/S is borked. But its powering up and all fans are working etc... I was also thinking that my other p/s might have messed up the mobo but it didn't die while the comp was on, it just failed to start the other day completely out of the blue. The same thing had happened to my previous p/s which lasted about the same time 2-3yrs. I'm ready to try anything, i wish i had another p/s to try since i ordered this one from newegg and i'd hate to send it back if theres nothing wrong with it.

Ok, from what i have read, you have been looking in the wrong place sooo,
1. go into your bios 2. go across to the boot tab ( top line of bios, next to power ) 3. Under that section you will see 6 options with the first being "boot device priority" ( this is were i suspect you were looking ), But if you look down further in the 6 options you have on the first screen you will see HARD DISK DRIVES, this is the section you have to enter ( not the boot device priority ) In the hard disk drives it should show your raid drive and your 320G storage drive. I suspect that the storage drive has jumped up to the top of the list, so if it has highlight it and hit enter, this will give you the option to change which drive is on the top of the list. Once that is done, Hit F10 to save and exit and you should be ok

Thanks for the recommendations, i like PC power and cooling p/s but its alittle out of my price range atm. $130 or so is my ceiling. I'll look in on that Silverstone p/s you mentioned, i've never heard of them before. If you know any other good ones in my price range let me know, thanks!!

Yeah i was looking at the true power line before i got the neo power, i ending get the neo because of the modular cables. But now i really could care less, i just wanna get a good one asap. Looks like i won't be able to contact newegg until monday morning so i got over a day to make a good decison. I could take my chances again with Antec and go for the true power 650 you posted or this OCZ one which has a rebate until the 28th.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002 I like the looks of the Silverstone ones but they look like they might be too large to fit my case. I also am looking at these two, even though there a tad higher than what i want to spend, but i don't know what the differences between them are. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104015 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104033 I know the easiest thing would prolly go with the Antec true power but i'm guessing at the way this Antec was acting that it might have been a compatibility issue with my mobo. But maybe its just an issue with the neo powers, dunno. Anyways Any ideas on these units or further recommendations are gladly welcomed. Thanks!! |

The silverstone power supplies are a good quality unit, I run the 650W zeus and have not had an ounce of trouble with it and the thing is loaded up to the hilt.
As for size the 560W unit should be a standard size, I did find the 650W to be a little longer than some of the smaller wattage units. I would take silverstone over Antec any day Also have a look at this unit http://www.pcpower.com/products/view...hp?show=S61EPS

Yeah i was looking at the PC Power & Cooling unit but newegg has it for $170 and thats outta my price range. I was also looking at some of the SeaSonic units too. The Silverstone units look good but i would have to remove my top exhaust fan in my case to be able to fit it and i'd rather not do that. I'm seriously thinking about getting the OCZ GameXStream 700, i've read good reviews on it and newegg has it for $130 after rebate. Also it seems to be a Fortron source and should also offer some growing room for the future. I'll still do some more research today and order something tomorrow morning. Thanks!
