Hard drive not working after Windows install
Hello,
Ok so heres the deal. I tried installing windows xp on a new hard drive. It got through copying all of the files and everything and then it got to the point where it has to restart the computer. At the first screen after booting (the one that has the mobo name) it just froze. So I tried restarting and everything but it just keeps freezinf even before I can get to bios. If i press del at this screen right away (which usually takes it to bios), it shows whats loading and everything and it freezes after it says something like this: Pri Master: WD(whatever HD name is) S. M. A. R. T. compatible and status OK Then it just stops. I tried several different things to fix it. I took out everything else from my computer so it was just the harddrive and video card hooked up and this did nothing. I also tried setting it up as the slave drive with a working master and with this setup it was possibly to get into bios. However it would not detect the working master drive and it would show the name of the slave drive as gibberish and the storage and everything was wrong. If anyone has any ideas of what went wrong or how to fix it any help would be great. Thanks |

for ide drives
wd drives jumper settings are different than most single master=jumpers removed master with slave=jumper in this position slave=jumper in this position for sata if it is a sata2 drive 300mg and the m/b only supports sata150mg then you have to put a jumper on limiting it to 150mg or you you are failing to load a required driver with f6 during the install, when it asks if you would like to load a third party driver
