Clean install of XP

I'm trying to do a clean install of Xp. After the cd copies all system files to the HD and then automatically restarts, the windows logo comes on for a few seconds and disappers. At that point the screen stays black nothing else happens. Is there something with my hard drive perhaps???

what type of hard drive do you have,you may need to load a driver with F6 when you start the setup

Its a WD hard drive

Is it a sata drive? Use 1 stick of memory until windows is loaded.

sata or ide
the sata driver is usually covered by windows but if it is on a raid capeable port you may need to load the raid driver or the chip driver

how wide and what color is the data cable connected to your hard drive

is the cable flat and two inches wide or round with a bunch of wire in it

or is it flat and only one half inch wide and red in color

It is flat and about 2 inches wide.

You have a ide hardrive, go to the above link, read the instructions and create a bootable floppy, then boot from it and follow the instructions to test the drive.

If the drive tests good then go to the above link and download the tool and again create the bootable floppy, boot from it and using the tools write zero's to the drive then again using this tool partition and format the drive.

Now install windows again if it still won't work post back with your full system specs and we will do some other tests
