What to do to this computer

I have just got this old IBM it has got both Windows 98 and Windows 2000 Pro installed on it. It has got quite slow, I reckon it is because of viruses and that sort of crap, what should I do in order to make it run nicely again?

Could I in any way remove my Windows 98 and only have Windows 2000 pro? Without screwing up my computer...

Yes you can, but I doubt that is causing your problem. You will lose all the programs you've installed under '98 and unless you already have them running in 2000, will have to reinstall them.

Well I do not think that is what is causing the problem. It is just I never use Windows 98 so it just fill up. And I have not installed anything under 98 so that will not be a problem. But how to get rid of it?

Diddy;

if I were in your shoes I would extensively check for viruses ad spyware / try very hard to rid them / then if succesfull back-up any critical data you may now have on your drive, then zero fill (wipe & erase) the drive with Boot n nuke= free utility (see my favorite tools in my signature)

then do a clean install of win 2000 nothing runs as fast and stable as a clean install! should be done at least every two years, I personally clean install every year

Well there is just one little problem and that is the fact that I have not got the Windows 2000 pro on a CD, and is therefore not able to install it...

In that case, you will have to uninstall '98. I assume you have dual boot at present. Have a look at this link to see how to do it. I then suggest you do a full virus check as I described before in my first reply.

you need an OS install disk for Win 2000 sooner or later (sounds like sooner)you will need to have that disk to exist and work within that OS environment. Have a look on ebay you may be able to buy one cheap.
