BIOs detecting hard disk as slave
I just upgraded my computer, put in a new case, mobo, heatsink and power supply. I used the SATA hard drive from my old computer. Now, when I boot the new PC up, the BIOs detect it as a slave IDE drive, but it's the only hard drive I have installed.
According to my mobos user manuel, my CD drive and my DVD drive are plugged in by ribbon cable to the IDE1 Connector. Is my computer confusing my SATA drive and my CD and DVD drives? Theres only 2 places to plug a ribbon cable into on my mobo, and the other one's for a floppy drive. Are my cables configured wrong? So how do I configure the BIOs to recognize the only SATA drive as master? |

Did you insert the tab in the correct place on the hard drive and classify it as a master instead of a slave? Are you using a double IDE connect and is it connected at the very first one?

Make sure the drive is connected to SATA 0 and not SATA 1. The motherboard will usually show a single SATA drive as an IDE drive so the OS will recognise it without the need for drivers.
