is it my hard drive?

ok i am having a problem(understatement actually)

My computer ain't booting up.. I open the case and all.. all fans are runing, lights go on both power and Hard drive. but that is it.

If i understood my problem more i could give you guys more to go on but for now that all i know..

It a PC that was made by parts. And was working fine the last time i started it up.. which was on Dec 28 or 29.

I guessing it might be my hard drive. casue it doesn't seem to make any noise on boot up so...

what do you think

My System

Hi lemurs,

First lets start with the simple stuff, make sure the mouse, keyboard and especially the monitor is pluged in and tight.

If that don't help disconnect anything you don't need to start up the computer like printers, usb hubs, joy sticks or the like and see if you can boot into windows.

If none of that helps we will need to take some things apart and reseat them and possibly replace them, do you feel comfortable removing and replacing parts inside the case and have you ever done this before?

If not maybe the person who build the computer can assist you and any information you can give us about it will help

first I am running it with only the essentials. Mouse keyboard and monitor only plugged in. still no go,

As for taking thing apart i am pretty confident in that.. might need a few clarifcations in some area but for the most part i can take thing out and put them in on the system as i have made upgrades since i bought the unit

Hi,

Try this and report back:

> Connect ATX connector to motherboard

> Hook up 12volt (almost square) molex to motherboard

> CPU/Heatsink/Fan with fan connected to motherboard

> Off/On switch connected to front panel header

> Speaker wire on

> No drives, no video card, no memory, no drives....

Turn it on and see if it beeps like a banshee.....and if it does, put one stick of memory in according to the motherboard manual instructions (which slot). Give it a test run and see what happens....stop there and report back.

> Does it beep with memory in

> Do fans and light come on

> Does it shut down after starting
