western digital HD 111GB Drive

Ok for some reason I can no longer access my HD how can i retrive my files without having to format it...I dont know what happened I just turned on my computer and it will not open keeps asking me if i would like to format disk! help!

I do not boot from this HD it is an external HD.

WD External HD problems

when i go to device manager it reads that there is not problem with my HD how do I install a driver so it is recognized? could that be the reason why i cant get my data?
