How to RAID-0?

I am going to buil a computer with two sata hard drives set up in hardware raid-0.
Now my question is how do i set it up?
My second question is, if the sata controller (or harde drive controller or whatever) makes the OS see two drives as one and use them as one why do you need drivers and whatnot?
Doesn't the Sata controller just tell the OS that its one drive and then it go's on and reads and writes as one drive even though its two?

Note: i know that there is sofware raid also but thats not of interest to me right now.

ThankYou

Im so stupid, i just read the "sata" thread and now i somewhat understand but still i would like to know why you need to install drives at all?
Doesn't the sata controller just Make the OS think that two drives are one?

no unfortunately it does not work that way, the drivers tell the controller how to behave, be it in normal SATA mode or RAID mode. That is why there are usually 2 sets of drivers for a controller ( intel is the exception ), So depending on what controller you have on your motherboard and if you have 2 , which one you use you will use. You have to connect your SATA drives then boot into your bios and then enable raid for the controller you are going to use. You will then save all the changes you made to the bios ( usually F10 ) and then you can reboot with your windows CD in to prepare for install. Before you get to that though you will have to enter the raid utility by hitting the assigned keys ( eg, intel is Ctrl I ) for your motherboard controller. You then create your RAID 0 in the utility and save and exit. The next step is to watch out for the F6 prompt in your windows install and load the Raid drivers that you have installed to a floppy disk. Once this is done your windows install will carry on as usual and once done you can then install all your chipset drivers and such.
This is a pretty basic over view and if you want more info let me know or read up a little in your motherboard manual . The Raid sections are usually toward the end.
