Maxtor Problem
Im attempting to install a slave drive. I want it to be noting but storage. With the OS on the Master.
After installing it and configureing the jumpers. It will show up in the Device Manager. But no where else. Through properties I can get to Volumes where its "Unreadable" (see image) [img=http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2736/oopsxu8.th.jpg] Specs, OS Windows XP SP2 HP Pavilion 8650C 20gb Master, Maxtor 92041U4 200gb Slave, Maxtor 6L200R0 The slave DOES show up in the BIOS (most current Bios for system) I cant figure it out, Any thoughts? |

what have you got the jumpers set to? if they're set to slave, try setting it to cbl select and try again.

try going to control panel, admin tools, computer management, Drive management. See if your drive is listed there.
It may well show it as inactive. try formatting using "right click" with mouse on drive selct format. It should format and then allocate a drive letter if you want to create partitions, select create partition before you format.

TBH I would simply download >>>This<<< and use that to set the drive up, it is the windows version but as your only dealing with the slave it will be the easiest option for you, hopefully when you run it the software will pick up the fact the drive is there and offer straight away to configure it for you to use.

Then you need to install it. were you in "add new hardware" when this picture was shown? if not start up "add new hardware" / already connected wait til it brings up the list and select the drive to install.
If its a SATA drive maybe you have it on the wrong connector (slave) rather than master. Also make sure that SATA is enabled from the BIOS.

There is no Slave/Master using SATA drives, the possible jumpers on the back are for spread spectrum (do not mess with it) and to swap drom sata 1.5 to 3.0 or vice versa depending on what your mobo supports.

Wasn't referring to jumpers on the back but more like the SATA connector he is working from SATA 0 SATA 1, shouldn't really affect whether his drive will be seen or not ..
