Maxtor External hard driver problems
My external hard drive all of the sudden just stopped working on me. whenever i plug it in it makes this constant sound about every other second like its reading then stopping. its pretty loud but i cannot get any of my programs to recognize it or read anything off of it. what can i do to get this drive back online? maxtor support is terrible and its goin on week 6 since i had spoken to them and i have yet to get an answer.... hope someone can help!

Download the drive manufacturers disk utility and run a diagnostic against the drive. You can find a link in my sig.
You may need to remove the drive from the enclosure and slave it in another computer to run the diagnostic. |

If you have similar sound comming out of the drive after you remove it from external enclosure you likely will have failed disk drive. The only help to get data back of it is to use professional DR help. If you don't care about data, then just tose it ;-)
