Hi there,
I bought a 200GB Wester Digital harddrive a few months ago. When I installed windows it only formatted it to be 130GB, so I then used Partition Magic 7 to re partition it to 200GB. Unfortunately I had to format my hard drive again over the weekend and now it is 130GB again. I tried using Partition Magic 7 again to change it back to 200GB but for some reason I just cant get it to partition the harddrive to 200GB. Partition Magic doesnt give me the option to go further than 130GB. This is very frustrating as I know I had done it once before but now it doesnt seem to work... Any helpful tips would be very appreciated. |

How did you format it? Did you let windows do it or you use the WD software? Windows sucks at formatting, always use the manufacturers program to do it.
What file system did you use? Check the disk management utility for any unallocated space. Right click "my computer", "Manage". Under "storage" on the left hand tree, click on 'disk management'. In the right pane, does it show any unallocated space? If you dont want to completely reformat again, you can format this space, you'll just end up with another drive letter.

I use the NTFS file system.
In the meantime I have read in another thread a guy had a similar problem because he didnt have SP1 & SP2 installed for Windows XP. Would this solve the problem, if I installed the service packs then run Partition Magic to re partition the drive? Would I then be able to make it 200GB? |

Yes this will help your problem, you must have your service packs in to break the 137GB barrier, have a read of this to explain why
