Hi,
IMHO, Western Digital makes very good hard drives and their SATA drives are no exception. My personal preference is for smaller drives, but don't let that keep you from using a large storage drive, if you have a way to back up large amounts of data for safekeeping. That is my opinion.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000KS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
check that your mobo can handle the size you'll need XP SP1 or SP2 slipstreamed to ensure good LBA48 support if no SP then beware the 137GB barrier! It's OEM and that probably means you won't get the usual 3 year warranty.
