Norton GoBack destroyed second partition

I have instaled Norton GoBack at my computer for a long time (I belive it has at Norton Utilities 2005 package). Today I desided to uninstal it, just becouse it used the hardrive too offen (almost always).

I used an usual way:
Start > Settings > Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

It worked fine, it did a restart itself and than continued removing itself before Windows started (it tooked ~15minutes). Everythink looked OK, however a second partition disapered...

Norton GoBack simply destroyed all my second partition!! All the data are gone!

Does anybody know how to get back my data on the second partition? Should I try install that pure program again? Partition Magic says that this place on harddrive is unallocated.

My System

Have you try'd using system restore to go back before you uninstalled nortons. If this works you might be able to move all the data off your second partition and back it up before you uninstall again

System Restore will not rebuild what has been deleted. Especialy partition. You only option if it is still have anything left (15 min is a lot of time to erase data) is to try Data Recovery option. Try Data Recovery Utility like R-Studio or GetDataBack or send it over to professional DR lab

dmitryk,
Thank you for the advice. I am going to try the data recovery utility, however I dont realy belive they will help. I understand that Notron GoBack had changed the existing partitioning type (NTFS) to it's own proprietary format. I think the data recovery utility support usual partition formats only.

Well as far as I remeber goback was using files which it stores on normal partition rather its own proprietary filesystem... so it should work. The only thing that software can get consfused by content of the GoBack files, since they contains portion of backed up filesystem

you might want to try partition table doctoravailable at majorgeeks. Goback doesn't change the file system, i believe it just maintains an image of the drive

Thanks everybody

Thanks everybody,

I successfully repaired my partition by Active@Partition Recovery. A DOS version worked realy slow but with a great result.
