Installing old (secondary HDD)
I want to know if I would encounter any problems if I put my HDD from my old Gateway (Windows ME) into my newer build (as a secondary HDD) that is running XP PRo.?
I only want to be able to access all the data on the old drive and am not interested in running ME. So I was thinking of just installing it as a secondary thinking I could boot as I normally from my new drive running XP PRo and then just browse through the older HDD. Are there any problems I might encounter doing this? Would my machine simply recognize the drive as if I installed another optical drive etc? Thanks for any assistance.! Cheers, CH |

Adding 2nd HDD
I'll have to dig out my gateway to find out, otr try to find some specs on it.
The HDD I have now is a Western Digital 250gb 7500rpm sata 3.0 16 mb cache the gateway from what I remember is a 15 GB 5400rpm? HDD. from around 2000. Does it really make a difference what kind of hdd's they are? I have extra power leads and hookups. I'll try to get more information tommorrow. Thanks |

just put it in but you will most likely have to take ownership of the files

putting it in
Dai,
Thanks. taking ownership is no big deal. I just want to be sure that my primary HDD and data is in no danger of any conflicts.????? It seems to me there should be nothing to worry about? right? Thanks again!! |
