Notebook Harddrive felldown
I have a toshiba laptop and it dropped and now the hard drive screwed up i tried to format it it shows up in the XP formatting page but it cant format.
and when i tried to format it it has wierd sound like a pencil hitting a table

that means that the arms or platters are scratched ... new harddrive is propably necessary.

usually the scratching noise is produced by the reading arm scratching onto the harddrive platter. this can happen due to lots of vibration or in your case the arm propably hit the platter causing scratches.
you could run a harddrive utility from the harddrive manufacture and look for read write errors.

Definitely sounds like the head is making contact with the platter (which it shouldn't) and/or the motor is borked. You can download one of a plethora of free SMART reading programs out there and see any recorded errors made in the hard drive's SMART log.
In any regard if you have any access to the hard drive, you should backup your data as soon as possible and consider having the hard drive replaced. |
