Question Hard Drive Recovery Help Please

Hi,
I brought my computer to the Geek Squad at Best Buy, paid for a system recovery. They said they were unable to recover the data, but could send it out to be done for a few hundred dollars! (They said it required a special machine or something). The info on my hard drive is important to me, (my whole life was on that hard drive, mostly documents, a few pics, NO music).

Anyone know of an inexpensive way I can get this info recovered?
Thanks!

why do u need to "recover it" ? i mean what is wrong with the harddrive ? is it dead or is it deadly infected by a virus ? does it not boot anymore ?

a simple solution would be to plug in another harddrive and install windows on the new harddrive and copy the files from one to the other. this only works if the drive that needs to be recovered is still accessible.

if the drive is actual dead dead then your only chance is to send it in unless you have the machine to take the drive apart and read the HDD platters.

If you can't slave the drive because the data is corrupt, and the drive isn't physically damaged, you can use data recovery software. GetDataBack is the best available and can recover files that appear to be lost, even from a formatted drive.

Runtime Software's data recovery software will help you rescue your lost or inaccessible files from any imaginable data recovery disaster.

Data Recovery is possible more often than you might think - even without having to send your hard drive to a data recovery service.

Our powerful, yet easy to use, data recovery tools are designed not only to undelete accidentally deleted files or partitions but also recover your data with GetDataBack after fdisk, formatting your drive, power failure, virus attack, software failure, or after deleting files, folders or partitions.

Runtime Software also offers a wide range of file system utilities and forensic tools as well as data recovery service for all kinds of logical hard drive failures and RAID reconstruction and recovery.

GetDataBack for FAT $69
GetDataBack for NTFS $79
Trial version: free download

The trial versions of GetDataBack will perform the recovery and will show you all the files that are recoverable. You can open and view files to verify that the recovery was successful. In order to copy the recovered data to another location you need to purchase a license key for the software. You don't have to run the program again, just enter the license key in the demo version.

I've used the freeware PC Inspector Data Recovery to successfully restore files from corrupt and formatted drives, and GetDataBack is supposed to be much better. Good luck!
