Dell Hd Swap Error

I have a Dell Optiplex 270... I recently reoformatted with the restore disc and when I went to reboot for winxp setup, i got a video error. When I gave up on that error, I got out my hd from my other computer (which was killed by lightning) and stuck it in my dell. I attached all that needed attaching and booted up and got a new message. "Primary drive 0 not found" and "SATA Primary drive 0 not found". I checked all the cables, still nothing. I went into setup and my hd was labled as an unknown device. I stuck my original hd back in and still the same error. I can't figure out what's going wrong. Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Did you enter cmos setup and have the drives re-detected?

In cmos setup there is a setting ‘reset configuration data” probably under pnp/pci setup. Enable that setting

Or clear cmos and reboot?

Run the drive manufacturer’s utilities on the “lightning” drive. If it’s good, you might have to zero the drive before installing the OS
