making an extenal internal
it there anything, besides formatting, that i need to do to an external drive before i make it an internal IDE master? my thoughts were that i'd just have to set a jumper and plug it in.... is that the correct procedure?

Thats about all you need to do. I dont think you have to format the
drive, unless you are making it your boot drive, the data should still be intact, the only glitch might be is if the drive is in ntfs. Then you would have to format as the data will become unaccessible..

if i want to save all the data on that disk, say 50 to 80 gigs on a 300 gig drive, can i still install windows without formatting on a separate partition? i beleve the hard drive uses the FAT system.

dont use the Fat file system on drives over 127gig Fat32 does not support LBA you will get overwriting of data in the wrong partitions if you remain in this configuration
you can convert your drive from fat32 to NTFS without data loss
