Chkdsk Loop
Hi I'm having a problem with Chkdsk, for about a year now (yeah I know I'm lazy) everytime I start up my computer Chkdsk scans D:, it finds no errors and proceeds to load Win XP, no problem there, the problem is, is that it does this everytime my computer restarts or is turned on.
My theory is that it's an error in the registry and a couple days ago i tried a possible solution involving the creation of a dword value in the registry called: AutoChkTimeOut and setting the value to "0", this didn't stop Chkdsk from loading everytime but it did change the way Chkdsk runs, it now says that D: is "dirty" and scans much faster without verifying the USN journal but none the less still scans. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

It looks like the value you added, is one that is meant to give you a chance to abort the chkdsk by pressing a key, not abort the chkdsk auomatically.
this command should reset the registry value back to it's default: start>run>CHKNTFS /D and stop the loop. Last edited by hwm54112; 08-27-2006 at 06:21 PM. |
