When you say the repair install didn't work, did it boot off of the disk but couldn't find your harddrive, or did it never boot off the disk? If it didn't boot off the disk, boot into BIOS (I believe you said this was f2) and make the boot order:
1st: CD-rom 2nd: Harddrive Then try to boot off the CD again to do your repair install. |

By error screen do you mean the Gateway screen that wants you to enter BIOS or the Invalid System Disk error?
You don't have a floppy drive connected do you? If so, make sure any disks are removed from it and also, if possible, remove the drive completely. |

Your operating system is win98, from your profile, chances are it will
not boot to the cd. If it were me, I would find out who manufactured the harddrive. Then I would go to there website, download a diagnostic tool, put that on a floppy. Boot to said floppy, and see how the hard drive checks out.

Re: Havin A "invalid System Disk Erros"" Please Help
Hi my name is matt and im a new user of this forum
i have the same problem invalid system disk replace the disk and then press any key. i have a leptop compaq presario 1692, i deleted the partition and restart the system then i created the partition and restart the system again after i format the c drive as normal process. then i setup the bios to boot with cd and here is the problem set it saved it and restarted. the system was still looking for the floppy drive and it wont boot from the cd drive. i tried everything that i know about and read alot from websites but still nothing. if i boot up from the floppy drive with win98 bootdisk it comes normal but when it comes to set the windows to install i get this error (CDR101: Not ready reading drive E) and it wont let me do nothing with the cd. now i know the cd is working because the system is loading the cd drive when computer starts and even when i select start computer with cd-rom support! i do have all the drives for the cd-drive so that's no option I don't know what to do next ! the leptop has got a usb port maybe i said i could connect an external cd drive which i have. but i don't know how to access a usb from dos ! and to be honest i was looking on the net and it seem very complicated Thanks for you help in advance |
