Installing a Hard drive from a old computer
Hi, About 6 months ago my computer shorted out due to a broken processor, I ended up getting a new computer as the motherboard was ruined. My problem is that this new computer only has a 80GB hard drive, whereas the old computer had 160GB. I was wondering if it would be possible to install the old computers hard drive into my new computer, or would it have been ruined when the computer shorted out. Thanks.

look to see if there is any burning discolouration to the pins,if you did not lose the ram and the video as well it is probably ok to slave it and format unless you wish to salvage files first

Thanks for the quick reply, Theres no obvious discolourlation on the pins. But if it has been damaged would it cause any problems to the rest of the computer? I'm just wondering if it would be worth taking it somewhere to get it tested, thanks.

taking it somewhere to get tested might be costly. if it was damaged and you connect it to the new pc won't do any harm. at best it won't be recognised by the mobo or it might be troublesome to use it with windows. i doubt that it would be damaged though, the mobo just sends/takes info from it. the PSU gives it power, so it's not like the mobo could have given it too many volts.
