Stop screen error

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you’ve seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard rive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

My computer igves me this error when the black screen with Windows XP lgo and the small loading bar is about to appear then shuts off. If I boot in safe mode it gives me the same error.

I tried all 5 of the starting options but they all gave the same error.

it's pointing to a hardware problem if safe mode and the boot options are not working
d/load and run the hard drive manufacturers diognostic utility on the h/drive
check all cables are secure
try a new 80 wire ide cable on the h/d
