Missing 2nd Drive
Hi,I know I am going to go over some old ground, but.I have just had to fit a replacement 2nd disk, it doe's not show up in My computer or device manager. It is listed in the bois as slave(unless this is my old one).
I have just spent a long time looking in this forum for answers. The best info I could find was it will not show up in Windows until it is formatted.I followed the instruction: open diskmgmt.mscif it is there, right click it and format.Err it is not showing up in there. What do I do now please.I have been all through Windows trouble shooting but no go. Please can you help. Cheers Old Silver I am now going to close down, boot up again, and check the bois again and anything else I can think of.Will log on later.Thank you. |

Yes, you can get information on the jumper settings from the website. I have gone there before.
Another thing to try is to connect it to the cable that your CD drive is on. If you are just looking to format the drive there are other options.... Connect the drive as the master (change the jumper settings) If you have a Windows CD you can format the drive with the CD Or you can use the floppy from 98/ME. Another option is a program that makes a CD and does the format for you. I have used D-Ban on a few occations. It formats the drive and writes over the content to erase any trace of old data. (Normally I use this before i send an old computer to be recycled). But you can make a CD from the ISO image. |

Missing 2nd Drive
Hi lads, it's Old Silver again, sorry about this but I have had this drive in and out changing jumpers ie Slave, Slave with Cable Select (what ever that is) and just Cable Select, but a message keeps popping up "Primary Slave Disk Error Press F1 to resume" but nothing works except in slave position, then sometimes it shows up in My Computer I close down reboot and it has disappeared like a wrinkley ninja. It is back now and to prove it I copied something to it. Late thought, do you think it could be the IDE cable and should get a new one to try??? silly question I know.
Thankyou again, Old Silver |

Missing 2nd Drive
Hi Dai,Just bought a new 80 wire cable as you suggested, made sure the jumpers were set to master and slave and booted up. The message still came up ""Primary Slave Hard Disk Error. Press F1 to resume" and of course it is not showing up in My Computer even though it is formatted and I did a successful save to it when it did appear. I just do not know what to do next. Trouble shooting not being my best subject. Again any help from your end would be very welcome.
Thank you, Old Silver |

Missing 2nd Drive
Hi All, Dai I got and fitted a new cable but no change. Now my sign in is Old Silver not Qucksilver, so after another coffee and a think, it dawned on me to visit the Mobo makers site. I visited the FAQs first, the first question was very similar to mine, and the answer was, both Master and Slave MUST be jumpered to Cable select. So I rejumpered both, booted up and Bingo..it work like a dream.
So thank you again for your help. Cheers, Old Silver |
