Hard Drive Problem!!
Ok, I have a hard drive thats a Western Digital w/ 70 GB, and I ran out of space so I bought another one w/ 160 GB. I hooked up everything on that 160 GB hard drive and on my BIOS it is registered as being connected, but when I look under My Computer it's not there. Do ya'll know wat I can do??

Hello Dookeybaby and Welcome to TSF,
Have you formatted the new HDD? To Do this you'll need to follow these steps... Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > in the Left Hand Pane double click Disk Management...there you should see your new Drive; now right click on it and go format, and Windows® will do the rest....reboot your computer and have another look in "My computer". One point to note though, you will only be able to do this if you have got the new drive set up as a Slave to your older one, and it doesn't have the Xp system program installed on it. Give it a whirl and post back. Regards, Dave T.

You can also get Western Digital's DataLifeguard tools from their site and use those. This way, your new slave drive won't be dependent on that master (if the master croaks and you need to move the slave, you can that way). I think it's mentioned in one of the stickies that the master and slave drives become bound together if you use the Windows Disk Manager to set up a new slave...

Hi,
Both of the previous posters appear to have you on your way with getting this baby to work. However, if that doesn't do the trick, then please list for them how the jumpers are set on each drive on that cable and where you have them placed on the ribbon cable. That always helps in troubleshooting to know what is located where and how.

Ok so I went to my Computer Management, but when I did my hard drive wasn't on there so I looked down and theres Disk 1, my 75GB, and Disk 0, my new 160 GB. Then all it says is Unallocated with a black line above it. What do I do now?

Hi,
Can you right click the drive and format it?

This link here has Western Digital's own hard drive tools (can also be used on Maxtors, and probably Seagates). I don't know if you've tried them, but it's worth a shot.
