Possible Harddrive crash?
When I start my home computer, it freezes up when I select it to go into safe mode, normal mode, safe mode w/ networking, etc. I don't even get a blue screen of death; it just freezes. This happened randomly yesterday without any major hardware or software changes taking place.
I think it may be an issue with the harddrive itself (motherboard still seems to be working fine upon startup). I tried cleaning out some of the dust and making sure connections were secure in my computer, but no such luck. note that my home computer does not have internet and that I haven't installed/uninstalled anything for months. I can't imagine it being a software issue Any tips on what it may be and how to fix it? I suspect it may have to do with my HDD, but correct me if I'm wrong |

Wierd... I just posted a solution for this and it disappeared...
Anywho, what I said before was: This sounds like a harddrive problem and it would be better suited in the harddrive forum. To fix this, stick the XP CD in and boot off of it. Go into the repair console and type these commands in: chkdsk /f chkdsk /r fixboot fixmbr The chkdsk's will probably take a while. |
