Hard Drive now shows as RAW w/ incorrect parameter error

I was moving my hard drives around, to see what was on which ones. When I plugged one of my important ones back in, a 160 gig Seagate, it shows up as a RAW hard drive and can't be accessed. I know, if it was important, I should have backed it up. I didn't think this would cause a problem. But now alot of important info is now not accessible to me. I have tried changing the jumper settings on it, and no success. I've read a few posts about this. They all involve recovery programs, or FAT 32 file restructure. My CD collection is in a MP3 file and is over 50 gigs on that drive. So I think that rules out FAT32. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to jump straight into a process without conferring with the good people here. By the way, the hard drive has never given me a problem before. No noises or anything.

Thank you in advance.

Here is a recovery software you can download that will fix your problem

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4129.html

it will scan for free and give you an indication if it can fix your drive >>>> then if you want to recover your data you must pay the $40.00

What file system is your drive using ?????

Thank you for the insight. The hard drive is in NTFS. Do you know if the data will be exactly as before? It took a long time to convert my CD collection to MP3, and want to be confident in the quality. Thanks again!!!

yes; I am most confident it will be. After your scan the drive you will be able to verify this.

Man, your fast, I was just going to edit my post. I downloaded Partition Dr. The drive I have the problem with is not my C: drive. It seems to have automatically chosen a drive that I think is my messed up E: drive. It lists it as drive 1. I have 4 hard drives in my setup 2 of which are RAID, with 3 partitions on the RAID and the other 2 as bulk storage. I'm a little more paranoid with this than usual, 'cause it seems like a 1 shot deal. Any spoonfeeding would be rewarded with good Karma :) I forgot that when I first open up the Partition Dr., it says that "No active primary partition on harddisk 1. Do you want to set an active primary partition on hard disk 1?" "Yes / NO" The RAID drives are SATA and the messed up drive is on the primary IDE channel. I'm not sure whether to select yes or no....grrr!! Thanks for your speedy replies.

By the way, when I pay the $49.00 for Partition Dr., can I burn to disc, or do I get a product code? I'm thinking about doing a fresh install soon after I figure this problem out. Or will it be for this install only?

Thanks for bearing with me on all this.

O.K., I didn't see the edit button so I will post again. Through a little searching of my own through the, would you believe it, the step-by-step section :), I found my files. I ordered the download with the cd, and it appears that when you select the x-tra cd, it doesn't let you download. They are sending me a CD of Partition DR. tomorrow. Thank you VERY much in advance. I'm confident that this will fix my problem. I could see all of my files in Partition DR.'s little window. That is such a good marketing ploy... to let you know that the proggy can find your files...and to tease you with your needed files. Try before you buy. I love it when someone gets it right.

Thanks again Linderman (Joe).

O.K. last one here. First of all, anybody reading this with the same problem, it took longer to download Partition Dr. than it took to fix my problem...Yay!!! The download link was sent to my E-Mail. So even though I'm getting a CD in the mail, I didn't have to wait to retrieve my files. I didn't read my E-Mail before my next to last post. The price is not $49.00. It was listed at 49 in one of the links I was looking at when I wrote that. The Price is $39.00, and $9.99 for the CD to be mailed to your house. A very good price to get your info back. Everything is just the same as I left it. Everything is still intact. I am backing up as I type. Never underestimate the importance of backing up. The shock when this first happened was a great teacher. All that work down the drain. But I'm sure most people know that already. Another lesson learned.

Thank you again Linderman (Joe), you're a life saver!!!!!!!!!!!!
