Cry Inaccessible Boot Device, when I try to upgrade

I'm currently running Windows 2000 (Evaluation Copy) and the evaluation period is over. When I put in the Windows 2000 disk to upgrade, I get an Inaccessible Boot Device Screen that says - check for errors... check hard drive to see if it is properly configured and terminated... run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption.

I'm not sure what to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would visit the manufacturer of the hard drives website. Download the diagnostic utility and run a full test on the drive first. Those diagnostics tests also are capable of fixing hard drives up to a certain level.

If it's a damaged file system case then

1.Insert the Windows CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.

6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows

My System

it sounds to me like the expired evaluation period is the culprit.

If linderman is right you will have to format your drive and install the OS.

How do I do that (format the drive)? And I'm assuming everything will be deleted when I do so...

You can save your data if you can access it when you install this hard drive as slave to a different system. If you have the chance to do so pls try and see if you can get your data from there. Then you can proceed with the format.

unable to reformat

I tried to reformat but I got this message:

Disk Manager has been detected on drive 0, but disk manager is not running. if you are booting from a floppy, remove floppy disk and reboot.
