I am thinking you are using an onboard videocard and it is intel. Just assuming. If so the winlogon entry for intel onboard videocard ( igfx ) might have gotten corrupted. Uninstall the display drivers in safe mode. And try again.

what dai wanted : you right click on my computer icon. properties - advanced tab and under start up and recovery settings uncheck automaticly restart. Then instead of restarting your system the Os will generate an error message with a blue screen. Please note that error message and post it here.

a search for the faulty driver only came up with this
SunkFilt for USB 2,0 reader (9360). SunkFilt62
are you running sp2
if you do a google search for this
INVALID_WORK_QUEUE_ITEM
you will see that it comes up with quite a number of items, which i could not link with the one above
the msdn one matches up with this
0x00000096
but then it says it is a win 2000 error
it is the first time i have run into this error code,so i don't have anything at my fingertips for it
sp2 has the usb2 included in it,so if you do not have it installed reinstall the usb2 driver
if it is installed in the run box type
sfc /scannow
and press enter
this will check the system files are intact
