Roll Eyes Unsure if drivers needed

Thanks you to everybody who is taking time to read this and possibly help.

The problem I'm having is that I cannot get my broadband connection to work on my computer; However, my computer does allow me to connect via USB port. Ethernet on the other hand doesn't work. I think it may be a driver issue because my ethernet worked until I re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows XP. I have tried setting up the internet connection through the control panel and the Auto-detect doesn't find anything. I've searched high and low for help and nobody seems to know.

It is a custom built pc, made by an old freind of mine whom I can no longer get in touch with, he gave me some discs with drivers for audio and visual, and a few other things. Nothing with drivers for my computer to detect my broadband internet connection

It may not be a driver problem but this is my best educated guess. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is your network adapter on a card or built into the motherboard?
Do you see any unknown devices in the device manager?

Upon Opening the case I'm positive that the network adapter isn't any kind of removable card. it's built onto the motherboard, and as for the device manager, i'm not sure where to check for that

New information, I Found a manual on my motherboard's Disc , that says It's a "Via VT6103 10/100 Mb LAN Onboard" I went to the makers website, www.viaarena.com in search of the right drivers and the closest I could find for a LAN driver was Via VT6102.... Would this work?
