usb to irda driver problem (please help me!)!

Hi,

I'm new here and hope I'm posting this in the right place, I really need your help:

I just bought a MI 620 USB to IRDA adaptor off ebay, but it came with no software cd, and my computer won't install it without it as it seems it needs a driver. So I've downloaded a driver for it: http://www.usbezone.com/irda%20driver.zip, but when I've tried to install and run it it now says it "cannot find WINXP&2K\DSIR620.SYS."

I'm a girl and not too clever with computers (!) but really need this infra red adaptor to work, so any help you can give me to sort this problem out would be appreciated, thank you

Melanie.

Are you using WinZip to unzip the file? You need to put a check in the 'use folder names' box after you click the 'Extract' button to put the files into the correct folders as there are 3 versions of the driver (98, ME, XP&2K).

Dont know whether im using winzip or not, but after clicking extract i dont get an option or box that says 'use folder names', it just goes to The file extraction wizard, then i click on the unzipped files and i get the error msg.

You're getting an error message because the files you need are all being extracted into 1 folder instead of 3 separate folders.

The zip contains 7 files...
Install.exe
3 versions of DSIR620.inf (Win98, Winme, Winxp&2k)
3 versions of DSIR620.sys (Win98, Winme, Winxp&2k)

As you're having trouble extracting the files to the correct folders, I've edited the zip to leave only the files you need. This new zip will only work for WinXP and Win2000. Create a new folder on your hard drive and call it Winxp&2k, extract the zip into this folder and run Install.
Attached Files
File Type: zip XP irda driver.zip (17.9 KB, 91 views)

oh my god...............

its still doing the same thing. On clicking install after doing all that (again) it just still cant find either the file DSIR620.INF OR DSIR620.SYS

Ive just seen kenny4u's post (on the board below mine, and seems he has/had the exact same problem - maybe its not just be being stupid?

Appreciating all your help

OK then

first get rid of any yellow conflict alerts you might have in your device manager from this. click on the view tab to show hidden devices.

don't have the device plugged in before you attempt to install the drivers.

it might be easier for you to download and extract koala's zip file to a floppy. then install the device, when windows finds it, direct the search to the A drive, explore the floppy, pick out the xp driver, then you might even need to expand that folder to get your new hardware search to digest the driver.
