Hi.
This is my first posting on this site...I am desperate. I have updated my laptop from windows 95 to 98 and in that process have lost the 256 colour. I have gone through BIOS, installed various drivers, SAFE mode, Properties etc, etc. Now I have found this forum, and will jump straight in with my problem: What do I need to do to restore previous colour options? Bearing in mind that some of your suggestions, I may already have tried, I would welcome assistance, as my head is 'cabbaged'. My laptop is 'Digital HiNote' if that's relevant. Thanks. Dave.

No conflicts were evident.
However, I am at least getting the option of 256 colours and a greater resolution, but when I select theser options and restart windows, I am told there is something wrong with my graphics set up. It seems to be that the adapter is not the correct device. Any ideas??? Dave. |

Hi,
It seems to me that the drivers that you are having might not be compatible with windows 98 , pls update the drivers and then try. 1) search and copy the drivers from the cd to your HDD 2) go to safe mode and then try upgrading the displaydrivers by goin to device manager/display adapters/ and then select the upgrade the driver |

Hi, Chiru
Thanks for that suggestion, but when I got this Laptop it was already updated. So it seems I will have to get hold of the updated drivers. Do you know a site that I can download them from. I have tried DriverGuide and downloaded NEOMAGIC 128 on the advice of a fellow struggler on Microsoft help site. I look forward to a more colourful world. In fact, there are hundreds of people in the same situation, and there have been numerous solutions: Checking the chip set for the adapter etc. Thanks again. Dave.

i would suggest running everest systool, and get a definative answer of exactly what video adapter is in there.
then, finding a driver shouldn't be too hard.

More than likely when you updated to W/98 the laptop simply went to "default VGA mode", and more than likely if you just go to the device manager you can manually load a W/95 driver from a list to pick from (but you will have to manually point it to the driver by manual navigation), or try some drivers from here
