only getting bass sound

I think I uninstalled some drivers, perhaps legacy drivers?
I was looking around in the Windows Media Player and found a lot, I mean A LOT, of files saved from just viewing clips, so I madly raced through deleting everything in the folders.
waaaaaa, now all I have is bass.

What I've already tried: 1. a restore point, did not replace these missing files; 2. I went to the sis site for my sound driver and installed the newest sis7012 files, restarted and nothing; 3. Reinstalled windows multi media 10 hoping it would put back files, but nope...still all bass.

What to do now?
Please and Thank You,
Lomondra

Win MultiMedia rips nonMS music files

You can mark this post as completed.

It wasn't really legacy files that I was missing, it's just that I saw every one as "not available"; but if my system was operating ok, there had to be another reason why I wasn't getting sound files to play.

It wasn't until I tried to use some of my other perfectly legal, purchased, licensed, and registered applications that were not made by Microsoft that I discovered that the installation of Windows Multi Media 10 ripped all the music files from these applications. So when I deleted them from the WMM folders, they were no longer in my applications. Most of these I did have backup CD's for, and some I didn't so I will just contact them for assistance.

I am not a MS hater, and generally make out just fine with their applications, but I've got to say that this new WMM 10 is a pig!

Does anyone know of how to take control back and tell WMM 10 that I want my ATI to open these files so it won't happen again when I install any other new applications? I can't find the options for this.

This is a great site and I appreciate your team greatly.

My System

Just a personal opinion... get rid of WMP10 and use Winamp (free full version). I use my PC mostly for multimedia and find that Winamp is perfect for music and pretty good as a video player. There are so many plugins that you can customize it to work exactly how you want. It's fully skinnable, so it can be viewed as a full screen player with Equalizer, Media Libray, Visualisations etc as separate components, or it can be shrunk down to a thin strip. It also connects to internet radio stations and can be used to watch internet TV.

For videos, I prefer to use Media Player Classic (not made by Microsoft despite the similar name). It's a very basic looking player but, like Winamp, very flexible in its appearance. It can play any video format including DivX, DVD and ISO-embedded files, even incomplete or corrupt files. Pan and zoom features using the number pad, accurate frame advance, plays website videos full screen, etc.... Highly recommended.
