[SOLVED] CD/DVD Rom can't help install Printer Software

Hi, its been a while since I last visited.

I have an Acer computer, XP Service Pack3 OS.

My CD/DVD Rom plays DVD's just fine but any other disc I put in will either show a green light, make a noise and thats it, or ask to insert disc etc. If I right click on the Drive it's empty, and the Device Manager says everything is working properly...as a result I can't reinstall the Printer.

I've tried 'Roll Back' and did 'System Restore' for something else a while back which may have helped solve that problem but not this.

It's been bung for ages and I just left it cz I was happy living in denial and I'm a girl and thats what we do sometimes .

If I can't fix it myself, I wonder...can I download software from somewhere for a Canon Pixma iP1000 Printer and install it that way instead?

You can download the Driver from the manufacturer website.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...upportIndexAct

For the DVD/CD drive check the manufacturer website for any firmware

updates.

Also try removing the filters.

Re: CD/DVD Rom can't help install Printer Software

Thank U so much for the tips Makinu1der2.

I followed the microsoft support link U provided, updated windows to the latest etc then tried Mr FixIt for the CD/DVD driver and got an error...By the looks of things it couldn't scan or access anything on my computer...I wonder if maybe its because I'm in New Zealand.

So discouraging at the best of times...here we are with state-of-the-art technology and once things turn to custard nothing ever works properly again.

I'm afraid to remove the filters in case I take off something I need and can't stick it back on again without the CD/DVD driver...(I still have all the installation discs).

I couldn't use the link U gave for the Printer, I had to search for an NZ site instead to download and install it, happily that's up and running but all I get is blue, green and yellow print now lol...(always something isn't there)...so I'm off to cruise the forums to look for advice on how to get black print (I've done Maintenance etc)...if U can help in that respect I'd be grateful otherwise I'll be in the Printers Support Forum.

Cheers

Thumbs Up Re: CD/DVD Rom can't help install Printer Software

I think completely updating Windows thru the link U provided and giving my Computer time to rewrite pathways or whatever it does might have taken care of a lot of the issues I had...(I left the computer on overnight).

It's running a lot faster and the CD/DVD Drive works just fine now as far as I can tell...it still plays DVD's, plays CD's again now and read the Installation Disc for the Printer so I could load the full package...(the NZ website only provided Printer installation). I'm not sure if the CD Burner works yet, I can't find a blank disc to try it out but I'm sure, and hoping it'll work just fine as well.

I've worked on the Comp for about 2 days so I'm gunna run a Disc Cleanup, Defrag, CrapClean etc to tidy things up.

Still can't get Magenta or Black print yet tho but I'm happy enough...I have new cartridges not refills so according to other threads and Forums I might need to poke something, wipe something or whack it.
