Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

My mother has a very old gateway (performance 1000) it's probabily about ten years old. Anyway it broke the other day so I did a clean install of xp. Would have been fine if I had the disc containing the ethernet controller drivers. I don't, and now I can't find them anywhere. I've tried gateway but the website had nothing and tech support told me to google the problem. I can't even figure out what kind of motherboard it is. Is there some sort of general Ethernet driver I could use I'm this situation?

Re: Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

Its actually a newer wireless card I had the disk for. Installing the drivers for the card didn't help through. It appears that the motherboard can't communicate with it without the Ethernet controller driver.

Re: Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

I opened it up but I see no useful markings on the motherboard. It's got a few intel chips... but I don't think that really signifies anything. It's a pentium iii...

Re: Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

Look at the network card . . it should be in one of the PCI slots

Re: Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

I did, I have the drivers for the network card. The Ethernet controller seems to be a motherboard thing.

Re: Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

Am I correct in thinking that the Ethernet controller is a motherboard thing?

Re: Dear god I need help: Ethernet controller driver

Sorry . . I don't see an answer to my question about the card . . is it an add-in PCI card or is it on the motherboard?
