Re: driver for unkown device

Do you still have a dial-up modem installed? This could be the unknown device.
Could you post a screenshot of your device manager box?

Re: driver for unkown device

have seen your screenshot ok and your modem does not seem to be a problem.
storage volumes looks ok as well.
Your computer has a card reader- is this working.
Do all of the computer functions run (usb, lan, firewire etc.)
try using the hp update tool
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...os=228&lang=en
You will need to install and run this and it should work for your computer.
There is no sdhost adapter listed but it should be there.

Re: driver for unkown device

hp update fails with code 9994 so I am still listening, I don't have any sd cards or a firewire device to check those with but the USB's are working and the other removable drives show up under MyComputer, Scott

Re: driver for unkown device

Have you tried the sticky? How to find drivers

You'll likely need to do by device id.

Re: driver for unkown device

PCI\VEN_ ####&DEV_ #### is the format that the sticky "how to find drivers" uses. and what I get from the OS is "ACPI\AWY0001\2&DABA3FF&0" and I did not find anything from google using everything after the "ACPI\".. so my question is what numbers/letters do I use in the search.. by the way Thanks for all your help

Re: driver for unkown device

I have done some searching with the device id in your last post and this may be what you are looking for :-
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3189598

Its the smbus driver. Try installing it if its not the correct one you should just get a 'device not found' message

Re: driver for unkown device

Are you using the OS description or running the Everest application? The sticky states to use Everest.

Re: driver for unkown device

I reread the sticky and it says I can use the Device manager. I have attached a shot of my unknown device with the device instance ID .If I misunderstood the sticky I apologize, and if I didn't maybe you can make heads/tails out of the info i am attaching. I ran Everest and I can't find anywhere in the report "Unknown Devices" or "Other". Scott

Re: driver for unkown device

Is this when you left click on the link- it opens a download box for me when I click on it.
You should then be able to download the zip file.

Re: driver for unkown device

Do you have an accessible email account- I have the zip file and can send it as an attachment. You will need to save it to your desktop before you can run it.
You will also need to open file properties and unblock it.
