OS: Windows XP Home - Service Pack 3
|
Hi,
I just reinstalled Windows XP on this system and am currently in the process of installing my device drivers. I've run into trouble with the audio one, it's definitely the right driver for this system but when I try to run the setup I get the following error message: "The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found" On inspection of the device manager, listed in the 'Other devices section' with the question mark and all the devices yet to have drivers installed, is 'Multimedia Audio Controller' signalling that I definitely need to install an audio driver. However, in the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section 'Audio Codecs' and 'Legacy Audio Drivers' are listed. As I recall these were also present before I reinstalled the operating system but the driver in use then was the SoundMax one I am now attempting to install. I am running Service Pack 3 which came on the OS disc and haven't installed any updates. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay-Ranger Last edited by Jay-Ranger; 10-31-2009 at 03:28 PM. |

Re: [Audio Driver] Help
What is the make/model of the PC. If this is a custom build then post the specs.

On other forums I've heard much talk of the KB888111 hotfix but this works only for Service Pack 2. I tried downloading the file in spite of this and indeed I got an error message stating that installing it was an unnecessary step. If that's the case, Micro$oft, why has this kink not been ironed out in your Third Service Pack? I've now fully updated the system using Windows Update and I've activated the operating system, in case that information is useful.
A couple more things I should mention: The SoundMax driver I've been attempting to install I aquired from the Intel website. Obviously, since this is a Dell computer the natural step would be to use the Dell support site to attain all the drivers. Listed under the Audio section of the Dimension 3000 driver downloads is 'Analog Devices - Driver, applies to ADI 198x Integrated Audio' Could this be of use to me? Its importance is listed as optional and I find myself confused. As I've previously stated, the driver in use prior to the clean install was a SoundMax one. When I was reinstalling the operating system I subsequently deleted the C: partition, though there were two smaller partitions left behind. I thought it best to leave them. If these are, as I suspect, the creations of Dell, is it possible that whatever data has remained behind in these partitions is what's causing me problems? I hope this additional information has helped and I anxiously await your suggestions, lads

Re: [Audio Driver] Help
PROBLEM RESOLVED:- Turns out the Intel driver was stubbornly insistent that the user be running Service Pack 2 for it to install, the Dell driver I mentioned in my last post didn't suffer from the same arrogance and all is well.

Re: [Audio Driver] Help
If you are using the On-Board card this should be the driver:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=122481 SP3 may be also causing your issue. It contains a MS UAA driver that may not be compatible. Uninstall any sound driver you have attempted to install If the above driver does not install try this: No sound on reinstallation, XP SP3 fix Install this MS UAA driver: http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe Then install the Audio driver posted above. Thanks for that, Bill. Judging by the times it looks as if I made my last post while you were still typing yours. I appreciate your trying to help me but I'm already enjoying the unmitigated glory of audio. Thought my head was going to burst with all the "solutions" I dug up and attempted without success. Alas that it was the silly driver itself.
