[SOLVED] Sound Problems
Ive seen alot of posts around regarding this same issue where after reinstalling windows or clean install of windows people have no sound.
I too am one of them, but.. Ive downloaded all my original drivers via the HP website for my model hp website - my model Speakers are fine and volumes aren't muted anywhere. Checked motherboard for any signs of damage to inputs, appears to be good. Operating System Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 Install Language: English (United States) System Locale: English (United States) System Model HP Pavilion 061 ES012AA-ABG a1305a 0qu0211RE101ASTER00 System Serial Number: AUD61804H7 AP620 Enclosure Type: Desktop Processor a 3.07 gigahertz Intel Celeron 16 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache 64-bit ready Not hyper-threaded Main Circuit Board b Board: ECS Asterope 1.0 Bus Clock: 133 megahertz BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 3.24 01/18/2007 Everything is in "working order" drivers are installed realtek soundmanager can be accessed. Device manager shows no yellow exclamation marks, just still no sound. Getting tired of uninstalling/reinstalling drivers ><!! Frustrating!! Thanks.. |

Re: Sound Problems
May seem strange, but I have done all troubleshooting I can, as I said everything seems to be in working order but still no sound.
Sound and devices are set to default. BIOS onboard has been changed to enable and auto. Ive uninstalled sound drivers and reinstalled a few times still nothing. Speakers are fine, cables fine. services.msc (windows audio) is enabled and started. msinfo32 under components my Sound device is registered there Hmm quite odd really. |

Re: Sound Problems
Unfortunately sound was same problem at sp2 (which was the windows cd)
I updated all windows updates to see if it would rectify the problem. I am pretty clueless at this point. Surely the original drivers for my motherboard/System would work. But alas they dont. |

Re: Sound Problems
windows was validated as soon as I installed windows xp home..
I did it over the phone because I wasnt able to get the net at the time I reinstalled windows. I think best thing for me at this point is to buy a cheap sound card and still troubleshoot the problem after that. Cause I do eventually want to solve this lol |

Re: Sound Problems
Is this your computer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...845205&lang=en Did you install the MS UAA driver before you installed the Audio? Open the Device Manager Click on the view tab Show Hidden devices See if you see any errors (yellow!) Post any errors you may have. Also look for the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture driver (UAA) under System Devices to see if it is listed. Bill Bill |

Re: Sound Problems
Yeah it was installed because you cant even install the realtek sound drive from the hp website without getting an error saying UAA must be installed first.
Nothing showing up in device manager. As I said everything seems clean. Its got me baffled.... Going to try one more time of uninstalling everything and redownloading the drivers.. |

Re: Sound Problems
Make sure you install the chipset driver first after you reinstall the OS
It is under Original drivers from this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...845205&lang=en Bill |

Re: Sound Problems
Can I get a full Everest report (a link is under my signature)
Copy and paste the report to notepad and attach the report to the thread using the Go Advance option. Did the sound work before you did a reinstall? Thanks, Bill |

Re: Sound Problems
Here is the report for the most recent reinstall I did where I just installed the chipset driver, Microsoft UAA and Realtek driver with no updates.
Thanks again for your patience. And yeah sound was fine before the complete reformat and installation. |

Re: Sound Problems
Hi,
As you stated, I also do not "see" whats going on with the sound issue. Review this guide for the sound and make sure everything is set correctly http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...845205&lang=en Lets see if an updated sound driver will work Uninstall the Realtek driver from Add/Remove Programs and in the Device Manager Install this driver: http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/...&GetDown=false I also noticed you have a Nvidia 7600GS video card that is installed, but the driver is not. Do you have the driver for this card? If not this should be the one: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_191.07_whql.html What are the specs of your power supply? |

Re: Sound Problems
Yeah i have drivers for my graphics card just havent installed them since the new reinstall of windows as I wanted to just try chipset and audio drivers first to insure no conflicts.
300W PSU I'll edit this post as soon as I try those other drivers soon. |

Re: Sound Problems
Well this kinda sucks. I figured out what was wrong but dont understand it.
Because I have changed my cases numerous amount of times on my new case i never bothered to hookup the front audio slots to the motherboard. (mainly because i hated looking for pinouts for my motherboard with 7 or so single wires to connect to the MB) zZzZz Well I just took everything out of my case, cleaned motherboard dusted out fans etc etc a general clean and decided to hookup F_AUDIO to my suprise I had audio on windows startup. Kinda odd for me because I wasn't aware Front audio had to be plugged in to get the rear audio??!?! So I unplugged all the wires from F_AUDIO and rebooted..... No sound???? Plugged them back in and viola sound I'm very sorry for this going on so long, and feel kinda stupid atm. But i wasnt aware that Front audio needed to be plugged in for rear audio to work?? Thanks again to all who tried the almost impossible troubleshooting lol. Thanks for the support and patience guys, especially Bill.. |

Re: Sound Problems
Glad to hear you can hear again!
This is funny (I think?), it is the easy things we forget about. Usually, if you have front Audio connections they are jumpered a certain way if they are not in use. If the jumpers are missing and the front audio connections are not connected, you will get no sound. This depends on the make and model of the board. I am glad you have sorted it out. Thanks for posting what you did. Bill |
