Troj virus unmounted CD/DVD drive-now code 19 over and over! Any advice?
Was refered to this forum by the Virus guys. They say I'm clean now (so it's safe to talk to me ...
) They helped me get rid of a Trojan which took out my CD drive. Within minutes of this virus the CD drive flashed an error and then was gone from the hardware tree. Since cleaning, I have tried to uninstall then scan 4 hardware; roll back driver; download fresh driver (from Dell site using my Service Tag); and cus at it. No change to symptoms. The clearest description of current condition is this: From boot-up (power on), My "Primary IDE ATA controller displays a yellow !. At the same time my TSST CD drive is "Not" shown on the hardware tree under Disk Drives. If I "uninstall" the Primary IDE, then "Scan 4 Hardware" the primary is found and mounted without the yellow !. At this same time the TSST drive is also found but Windows flashes an error message stating "Windows cannot start this hardware because it's configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. Code 19." This symptom and sequence of events is consistent and repeatable. Q: why do I have a quantity of 2 "Primary IDE controllers"? Is that normal -or- do I have some sort of cloan?
