ide contoller problems
i had a couple of years ago built a computer it has a k9n neo mother board amd3800+ it has to pata hard drives 80 gig and a 120 gig now the mother board has only one ide slot so i bought a ide contoller card for the mother board and hooked up my hard drives to it and it didnt work, i tryed using the 1 optical drive in the computer to it but that doesnt work either it loads up windows but the optical drive isnt in my computer as a icon and the optical wolnt read anything. When the computer turns on after like 2 screens theres a screen that will come up that has the 2 names of the hard drives or the optical drive what ever way you hook it up. then at the bottom of the next screen it says not enough rom space or some thing like that. the computer. help me!

Re: ide contoller problems
Hello and Welcome to TSF,
Are you trying to install windows?....if so then do this first 1. Remove the IDE controller card you added 2. Install only 1 harddrive (the one you want windows on) 3. After windows installation, install any drivers necessary, add protection, then update windows using the window update icon under the start button. 4. After completing above, now add the IDE controller card and restart computer 5. Check device manager that the driver installed correctly, if it did proceed... 6. turn off computer and hook up the other harddrive now Note: You may want to use a harddrive utility before installing windows? Go here for HD utility: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 If the harddrive isnt listed in the list, try seatools then or you can use 3rd party programs here: Killdisk - http://www.killdisk.com/ DBAN - http://www.dban.org/download Choose cd ISO image file and burn them as an image to a cd. http://www.imgburn.com/ Go here for drivers: (MSI motherboard) http://www.msi.com/language/

Re: ide contoller problems
when i installed windows i finished doing updates and drivers ect..... then i plugged up my slave hard drive later then i plugged in the ide converter card and tryed to do the optical drive didnt work. Neither do the hard drives the error is not enough space to copy pci option rom.
So do i have hook up the primary drive and the optical to the board and the slave drive to the ide converter, im still confused is there a bios thing or something i have to do. |

Re: ide contoller problems
Ok when you plugged in the slave drive, did it show up in device manager?
It shouldnt matter which one you hookup to the card - HD or Optical drive. Preferrably I would have the 2 HD`s hooked up to the motherboard. Now lets first focus on slave drive, answer the question above, then we will move forward to the IDE controller card and optical drive. Dont have the IDE controller card or optical drive hooked up yet please.

Re: ide contoller problems
Ok so now the computer is reading the 2 HD`s?...good
Now plug in your IDE controller card (not the optical drive yet) and boot up computer Once at the desktop, go into devcie manager and check for any yellow ! marks and post them in your next post. What is the IDE controller card you bought?

im bad with words here sorry. i curently have the 2 hard drives plugged in the mother board. i did try pluggin in the hard drives to the ide card and they wolnt read. when the optical drive is plugged up to the ide card it just doesnt recongize it. it is under the bios under boot sequence where you can make the optical or the hard disks boot first but it doesnt show up in my computer as a icon.
where it says other devices in the device manager the raid controller has a yellow ? so does the ethernet contoller, but thats because i have my own wireless card. nothing else has and yellow marks of any kind i cant find the box for the ide converter i bought it a while back i just recently have the time to work on it. Re: ide contoller problems
Go here for Raid driver:
http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=se...ywords=k9n+neo Choose the right version of motherboard you have. After you installed the driver, restart computer, check device manager again to make sure the driver installed correctly, if it did.... Turn off computer and hook up your device to the IDE card now.

Re: ide contoller problems
So with the card just installed and nothing attached to it yet?, what shows up in the device manager?
Do this: right click on the device that has the yellow ! mark beside it, choose properties, Go to "details tab" and post the device Instance ID# in your next post.

Re: ide contoller problems
What software did you use to burn the DVD? . . You will probably have to load that software to get the DVD drive to read the DVD-RW disc.

Re: ide contoller problems
yes it read but also when i hooked up the external driver to mine it read the dvdrw's with out a problem. I was looking on line because i have been posting in mad places and looking up a lot of things and found out that a dvd drive has 2 lasers that make it work one for cd and one for dvd, i didnt know that before today. Maybe the laser for dvd fried out.
