Problem with AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]
Hi. I recently moved my computer and after hooking everything back up, my sound has quit working. I've searched forums for help with my problem but have not found a solution. When I try to update my driver on my computer it cannot find the correct software and I do not have the CD for this. Any help would be appreciated! My Everest report is as follows:

Re: Problem with AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]
Hi Laura
I'm familiar with your chipset type - the Intel 82845 series is also used on an HP Compaq DX2000 machine I have. Just a couple of questions before you begin - are you sure that the speakers are connected to the correct speaker-jack on the back of the computer and that they are also powered. Also, if you bring up the system properties (go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager) do any audio devices have a "!" next to them? If not then your problem is not hardware oriented. If there is an exclamation mark next to an audio device, I might suggest you try http://www.intel.com/support/motherb...top/detect.htm - it can scan your system for any out-of-date drivers. Typically, any AC'97 Audio driver should work since the AC'97 range is quite common but it is probably best to get the exact one for your board. I believe the link to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=8198&lang=eng is the exact AC'97 driver required. Downloading and running the file should extract the contents and then run the installation. I suggest if you download to the desktop and run it from there then it will create a folder on the desktop which has the audio setup files in. If there is no change after restarting the computer, drop me a message. The folder that was extracted when you ran the initial setup program has some sub-folders in it with installation files for different versions of Windows and different processor types. I can talk you through which one to access to ensure the SoundMAX AC'97 drivers and software is properly installed on the computer. |

Re: Problem with AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]
Just as a quick second thought - it turns out that Intel 82801DB is not a specific audio device, it is a chipset to which many different devices on your board connect - specifically the Hard Drives, USB, Network Adapter, Expansion Slots and the on-board Audio.
