Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX driver problem

Hi, I have had a couple of problems today with my Nvidia geforce 5200 fx, I am running XP with SP3. The first problem I had was the nv4_disp infinite loop BSOD which I found the solution for on the net whilst using safe mode, I need to reinstall my nvidia drivers apparently which I have been trying to do all day which leads to my second problem.

I have dl Drive sweeper and go rid of all nvidia driver files, rebooted and tried to install the latest driver for my card from nvidia's site, however when I am installing the driver halfway through the screen goes black for 2 seconds and reappears with smiley faces all over the screen in lines

This keeps happening with each driver version I try to install, could anybody advise on why this is happening and how I can solve this? Thanks

Re: Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX driver problem

What is the exact make and model of this computer?

If you use Drive Sweeper to uninstall ALL the Nvidia drivers did it take out the Chipset Driver?

This is why I need to know the Make and Model.

I also do not like this smiley face thing going on.
Is this computer infected?

Bill

Re: Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX driver problem

Not sure on the computer make because I changed the case a while ago, think it is a compaq preserio s0000, quite old, here is the spec anyway

Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz processor
1x512mb RAM, 1x256mb RAM (768mb)
Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX graphics card
80gb hard drive

The only files left after using drive sweeper are four files from Nvidia Display:

C:\WINDOWS\prefetch\NVUDISP.EXE-06277B26.pf
C:\WINDOWS\prefetch\NVUDISP.EXE-1BFBB47B.pf
C:\WINDOWS\prefetch\NVUDISP.EXE-2EB69C45.pf
C:\WINDOWS\prefetch\NVUNINST.EXE-3B3D0227.pf

These always get left behind when I use drive sweeper.

The computer is definitely clean, I searched for other people who have seen these smiley faces whilst using nvidia and came across some.

Can you run Everest under my signature and attach the FULL report to the thread?

This will give us a better idea of the hardware you have.

Here is a link to the drivers:

Scroll down to the original drivers>Spring 2004 Original Graphic Driver Collection

See if this driver will install.

Re: Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX driver problem

The driver managed to install and caused no problems during installation although when I restart and try to start up normally I still recieve the BSOD concerning nv4_disp infinite loop.

Re: Nvidia GeForce 5200 FX driver problem

OK,
What did you do to try to fix this issue in the first place?

When does the error occur?

Have you tested your memory?:
http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

How much memory do you have in your system?
