[SOLVED] Downgrading Sony VAIO NW15G from Vista to XP
Hi,
I brought a Sony VAIO NW15G which came pre-installed Windows Vista and I was trying to dual boot a Windows XP on it. I did downgrading once for my HP laptop a year ago but I did not succee this time coz Sony doesn't provide the SATA driver from the support web. Does anyone know where I can get the SATA driver for it? And I also found there are drives from the Sony download site that are not necessary. Please tell me which drivers I should download for XP. Thanks. Regards, Shane |

The provided model number does not match any Sony products. Post the full model number and what region of the world that you are in.

Re: Downgrading Sony VAIO NW15G from Vista to XP
Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting, change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( Verbage will vary by manufacturer some will say IDE instead of ATA)
If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD, follow the instructions in this guide : http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/

Hello,
What is the full model of the laptop? Is it VGN? and the full model number?

Re: Downgrading Sony VAIO NW15G from Vista to XP
Hi all,
I have finally done a dual boot on this machine. It's a new model (VGN-NW15G) which uses Intel R 4 Series Express Chipset. As there is no option to disable the SATA mode in BIOS, I downloaded the SATA driver from Intel and slipstreamed the SATA driver to an XP installation disc. Here are the drivers you need if you are installing XP on this model: Get SATA, Chipset, and Video drivers from Intel: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...5&submit=Go%21 Download Windows XP SP3 from Microsoft (you can manually run Microsoft update instead): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Use nlite to slipstream the SATA driver and SP3 with your XP install disc. nlite: http://www.nliteos.com/ nlite guide: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/ After XP is installed you can start installing the drivers. Lan Driver: Marvell Yukon 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverSearchResults.do (1st on the list: installer for Yukon Devices) Wireless Lan Driver: Atheros AR928x Wireless Network Adapter http://www.atheros.cz/download.php?a...R928X&system=1 NetFramework 2.0: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en UAA Driver http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/arc.../11/81540.aspx Audio: Realtek HD Audio http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/ HDAUDIO SoftV92 Data Fax Modem: http://download.cnet.com/HDAUDIO-Sof..._4-172888.html Sony VAIO Pointing Device: http://download.cnet.com/Alps-Pointi..._4-172887.html After all that the XP is working fine now you can go ahead with EasyBCD to recover Vista's bootloader as well as XP's bootloader. I'm not talking about this in details as there are many other threads have already covered this topic. |
