I've got a gigabit ethernet cardbus PC card for an old laptop I recently acquired but when I try to use it, Win98 says that the drivers aren't installed. In the device manager it's showing as a "PCI Ethernet Controller".
I've scoured the web for drivers but as the PC card has no manufacturer name or logo, and a search on the part number brought nothing I'm a bit stumped. Can anyone offer any advice please? |

Re: Ethernet PC Card
I'm a little rusty with Win98 but Ithink it will work this way. Open Device Manager right click on the device(ethernet controller), Then on Properties, Then on the Details Tab.
A window will open and under Device Instance ID it will list the DEV/VEN#. Post the 2 numbers. |

Re: Ethernet PC Card
in the pci ethernet controller properties window, there is only "general", "driver" & "recources" tabs. In the general tab, next to the heading "manufacturer" it says "none specified".
do you think the drivers may be on the win98 cd? a mate of mine said it may not work as its a gigabit card and the 1st edition of win98 doesnt support this |

Re: Ethernet PC Card
Hi Sys,
Get the chip manufacturer's name and the part number off the main chip on the board. It's usually the largest one. Try their web site for the driver. They supplied the driver to the board maker and usually make it real easy for you to get it. Good Luck, Jim |

Re: Ethernet PC Card[MOVED]
Hello,
A bit of advice here, on Win98 do not install the pci etherent card in the pc until the driver is installed first. A suggestion: Put the PCI ethernet card in another pc preferably that has xp windows on it, and then you could give us the driver device instance ID# so we could look it up for you on the net and find the corrrect driver for it. Device instance ID# - right click on it in device manager, properties, details tab and should be listed there.
