ATI Help
I'm running with an ATI Radeon 4870 Saphire Graphics card on windows XP, with Dual Monitors. Working with extended desktop on both, about a week ago, my FPS on everything started dropping to at most 8, even on lowest settings, and lagging loading simple things such as Firefox. I read around online and was advised to update my drivers to Catalyst's latest version from the ATI website to fix the FPS issue, but to first uninstall my video cards drivers.
I uninstalled the drivers and reloaded windows, and my second monitor stopped working. I went and installed Catalyst ATI's latest display drivers, and nothing changed, now my FPS is worse and my 2nd monitor isn't working. It's really frustrating me, I cannot figure out how to fix my FPS issue, and now I can't use my second monitor with my desktop extension, its giving me the error that crossfirex is enabled. Any advice or help would really be appreciated. |

Re: ATI Help
For more clarification on the issue I'm having, heres a better explanation:
I have been using Windows XP and ATI Radeon 4870 Saphire HD graphics card to support dual monitors on my computer without any issues for several months, until recently in the past week my frame rate dropped dramatically. (From an average of about 30fps in a game, to 8 fps, including running slow when opening firefox. I checked if the cause was my video card overheating, and it was not it, so I looked up the issue and saw other people having a similair problem. The recommended solution was to download and install Catalyst display drivers and control center from the ATI website. I did this, and there was no change, at which point I went to look for more information on it. I was then told I should uninstall my display drivers and then install the new ones, so I followed these instructions: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...eDriverXP.aspx To uninstall my drivers. Note when it prompted me to uninstall graphic and chipset, or just graphic drivers, I selected just graphic. It then asked me to restart my computer. I did this, and upon startup, nothing was showing up on my second monitor anymore. Next, I ran and installed this: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...=xp/radeonx-xp Then, after installing multiple times, I attempted to change my display settings to extend my desktop to my second monitor. I recieved the error message 'Cannot do that while Crossfirex is enabled. I don't have any clue what that is, and my FPS has now gone from being 8 to 4, so in a sense, I've so far only made the problem worse, and I'm scared to try and fix anymore of it by myself. I was hoping somehow, someone could tell me how to properly uninstall/install these drivers so that I can get my FPS back to normal and get my second monitor display back. please help. |
