Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
I have a Gateway M-7315u notebook computer.
Today, I downgraded the OS from Vista 64-bit to XP 64-bit, sp 2. I cannot find sound drivers anywhere for it. Pretty sure it is Conexant brand. It runs both the modem and the sound through the HD sound bus. I've tried every Intel, Realtec, and Conexant driver I've found. Any suggestions? |

Check Device Manager and get the Device Instance ID of each of the devices that has yellow marks or those under unknown. Post them in your reply.

Re: Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_14F1&DEV_2C06&SUBSYS_14F10000&REV_1000\4&395CBA01&0&0102 Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_107B0390&REV_1000\4&395CBA01&0&0001 I also have flags for my ethernet controller and mass storage device. I'm not worried about those quite yet. |

Re: Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
When I use the setup files, I get the error:
"Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA/MODEM device for this driver." When I try to do a manual install (which is Device manager -> problem device -> update driver -> specific list -> select directory to search, correct?) windows says that it can't find the necessary software. Anything else I can try? |

Re: Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
Same for both drivers from the two links? How about the audio driver (another 2 links)?
Also try this for modem: http://www.conexant.com/support/files/HSFac97_WinXP.zip Also try this for audio: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/11036/eng/kb888111.exe

Re: Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
I really appreciate your patience! <3
![]() ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/CODMOD-12767900-US.EXE <- this one for the modem wouldn't even extract because it didn't like my gateway pc. The other modem one listed failed on both setup and manual install. The two you listed for audio failed on setup and manual install. My Windows XP 64-bit os is completely up-to-date as far as I know, so a hotfix probably won't help. The one you linked said it was for a different platform. I have tried several on my own already. And the last modem one listed (Also try this for modem: http://www.conexant.com/support/files/HSFac97_WinXP.zip) failed on setup and manual install. Any other suggestions? |

Re: Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
I am not so sure if there is one for 64bit XP but this one should work on an XP Home and XP Pro (check the page for compatibility... I cannot find anything re:64bit XP).
You can try this one for the modem too. For the AUDIO: Try this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...tem=ob-47727-1 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35271.exe

Re: Gateway Notebook - Downgraded OS, now have no sound drivers
All four failed. I think two of them were the same driver.
I'm coming to a point where... I want to look at the factory driver I was using in Vista, compare it to a similar driver in XP, and modify it myself to make it work. Is this a possibility? |
