cd rom trouble

ive been having problems with my cd-rom drive. everytime i put a cd into my laptop windows xp like a dvd or a game it wont read it. in occasions it does but most of the time it doesnt. how do i fix this problem so that my laptop reads the disks.

It is possible you may have a dying drive. It could also mean that you need to clean the lens. Google for info on how to clean the CD/DVD drive lens and see if it help solves the problem. Worse case is you need a replacement drive.
