FastFat New Hardware Wizard

Hello. I currently had a power failure while windows was running. I was working on something in notepad when the power went out. When it came back on, it gave the message: "Couldnt start because following file is missing or corrupt: windows\system32\config\system". So I put in the windows disk and pushed f12 to choose to boot from the cd. The I ran the recovery console. When it came time, I typed in chkdsk /r (around 3pm yesterday) and then on either step 3 or 4 (i forgot which exacly) it stopped at 50 percent. Then it slowly climbed 1 percent per hour. When I went to bed at around 11pm that night, It was at 67 percent. When I awoke this morning around 7:30, it was still at 67 percent. I hard resetted the computer by the off/on button on the tower. Then as the computer restarted, I pressed f8 to choose to go back to the most recent settings that worked (before I did that, windows started up and i was able to access everything). Then after the f8 part I started windows and the new hardware wizard showed up for all the internal parts of the computer. I choose automatically find the drivers for those things. But when I get to the wizard that "helps you install software for: fastfat", I choose find automatically and no driver can be found. I put in the windows cd, seagate hdd cd, and a couple of dell drivers cds and ran the wizard and it still cannot find the appropriate driver for it.
The only thing I can see that doesnt work properly is that my Tmobile Wing does not charge when you put it in. All the other external devices or external storage devices seem to work fine. So I installed the program again for the phone called activesync. The fastfat wizard still pops up. I rightclicked on the cpu internal harddrive in 'My Computer' and went to properties > tools. Then I ran the error checking button. I did not check the 2 boxes that it gave after that (just scanned the drive for errors). And it stayed on step 2 for a while and then said that it could not be completed.
With all that said, how can I find the FastFat drivers or how can I get the error checking to complete?

Re: FastFat New Hardware Wizard

My windows cd was manufactured in 2001. Since then, windows has had many updates and service pack changes. Are you sure putting the cd in during the scannow process is a good idea? Will it not mess up the whole system since the cd is so outdated?

Re: FastFat New Hardware Wizard

yo should keep your original disk updated by slipstreaming the latest sp into it and using
the slipstreamed disk as the op.disk

use the network version of the sp for slipstreaming

slipstream with nlite

K. I went back and did some more options with the chkdsk. Then I did chkdsk /r again and everything finished. And now it still brings up the new hardware wizard. I look at my hdd properties under the general tab and see that the device usage box is greyed out. For the driver file details, i see the driver files: disk.sys, partmgr.sys, and snapman.sys. The first two have green checks on the side of them. The snapman.sys does not. I also ran a diagnostic with Seatools for windows. The short and long tests failed. Im beginning to think that this is just a driver for the hdd which calls itself fastfat. The snapman.sys has this company named Acronis on it. Acronis is also on the disk wizard program. So Im going to look up info on this snapman.sys (feels like im getting closer to a solution). Everything else is still running good that I know of...

Don't know how to modify my last post so sorry for double posting......but after doing a system restore after all of the above, I do not get the driver message anymore. I dont know if the problem is truely gone but it seems like it. Only time will tell. Thanks for the assistance ;)

Re: FastFat New Hardware Wizard

one of the programs missing after the restore is likely to have caused it
